Rita Bateson

Co-Founder & Director of Education, Eblana Learning

Rita Bateson is a respected educator, author and mentor with over 20 years of experience in international education. She has held key roles in international education, including Senior Curriculum and Assessment Manager at IB Global Headquarters and founding Head of Secondary at Nord Anglia International School in Dublin. A renowned curriculum developer and textbook author, she is also a seasoned IB workshop leader and consultant.

Rita currently serves as the Director of Education and co-founder of Eblana Learning, where she focuses on helping schools harness AI’s potential ethically and with confidence, drawing on her deep IB expertise and practical insights.

On this strategic foundation day, you’ll cut through the hype and examine AI’s real implications for your school. You’ll unpack the six critical risks AI introduces to schools—and begin assessing your own context across each one. Using the Eblana 5P’s Framework, we’ll guide you through what matters most for IB leaders.

You will:
  • Understand the six key risks AI poses to schools
  • Evaluate your school’s current approach to AI literacy, data protection, and student safety
  • Explore the EU AI Act to benchmark school governance
  • Assess your readiness using the 5P’s: Preparation, Policies, People, Processes, Protection
  • Clarify your school’s role in shaping ethical and sustainable AI use in education

How do you turn insight into action? On Day 2, you’ll move from understanding AI’s challenges to designing a strategic, school-wide response. You’ll begin building a living AI strategy that aligns with your school’s mission, IB philosophy and operational realities. From drafting policies and professional learning plans to integrate AI literacy and safeguarding into curriculum and culture—this is your space to do the work. You’ll leave with a concrete, context-sensitive roadmap for leading AI with clarity and confidence.

You will:
  • Define your school’s core vision and purpose for AI
  • Draft key components of your AI governance and policy strategy
  • Design pathways for staff capacity-building and student AI literacy
  • Brainstorm on integrating AI ethics and safeguarding into curriculum and pastoral care
  • Build a phased roadmap for implementation, aligned to your school’s context
